Did you hear me in my last post? I said the Pitt County District Attorney’s office SUPPORTED and UPHELD the botched investigation into Keisha White’s death. The DA’s office has ultimate authority in a homicide investigation, because only a DA can bring felony charges against an alleged suspect. Yet, they accepted a botched investigation report from a botched investigation, followed by a botched charging decision. Let’s break it down.
SO, WHAT HAPPENED UNDER KIMBERLY ROBB’S WATCH?
Kimberly Robb was the Pitt County district attorney from 2013-2018. She was the first DA associated with Keisha White’s case in 2014. But here’s where here things began to get suspicious.
I first contacted the DA’s office in June 2014 after the hospital sent Vicki Haddock and a couple of her cronies to my house. While they did not reveal much information, Haddock did tell me the hospital had not done all they could for my daughter. You ever heard of a hospital making such a move? Some might think, “Well, that was good thing.” Was it actually? Could it have also been a sign that what happened to Keisha was so heinous that they wanted to put a lid on it before I learned the truth on my own? Yeah. That part. So, I needed someone outside of the hospital to take a look.
The first person I spoke with in the office was an assistant DA, Anthony Futrell. Initially, the man was very warm and concerning. He was interested in hearing what I knew thus far and wanted to learn more. At the end of our conversation, he told me I would hear back from him in about a week, and if I didn’t, I could call him.
I spent the next few days researching to ty to find out what information the hospital was hiding from me and learned federal protocol for use of restraints in hospitals. (Keisha died from lack of oxygen while in restraints, for those of you who do not know.)
I immediately contacted Futrell, who, to my surprise, had a very cold attitude. He was no longer interested in learning more information. It’s like he did not care. Then he said something that put his demeanor into perspective – “This is not a criminal matter and my boss agrees.”
Wait. What? Why would he say that? And how could he say that without any support? They had very little information at the time, because I had very little information to give them at the time. They had not investigated anything. But one thing was clear: His boss, DA Kimberly Robb, could not be trusted.
I mean, does Robb’s conclusion fit the explanation of prosecutorial discretion? It absolutely does not. This was not a decision about whether she might initiate an investigation or whether she would move forward with charges. It was a conclusion drawn with no factual basis to support it. It was not about making a prosecutorial decision, but instead, about controlling the narrative and shutting down my efforts. Let’s fast-forward.
In a September 13, 2014, email from former Greenville Police Chief, Hassan Aden, he informed me that Robb’s office (including Futrell) had already looked into the matter with the help of the SBI. He then told me to forward any new information to the SBI since they had already investigated. (For background info, please read “How Greenville NC Police and SBI Screwed Up a Homicide Investigation” here.)
What was the DA’s office trying to pull? I can tell you with certainty, that no law enforcement investigation had occurred during the time period from Keisha’s death in May up until this point in September. If one did, I would have known about it… according to the GPD’s and SBI’s accrediting agency, C.A.L.E.A. Afterall, I was the complainant and a key witness, therefore they were required to contact me for interview. That did not happen. Additionally, this particular so-called investigation has NEVER been referenced or mentioned by any authority EVER AGAIN.
MY GUESS
It is in my opinion that ECU Health contacted Robb when they first learned that I was going to talk to the DA. How did they learn this? – From the SBI agents. If you recall from my other posts, ECU Health’s risk manager, Vicki Haddock, reported to three SBI agents outside of the Greenville, NC area. These agents were getting information from me and giving it to her. And if ECU Health did not alert Robb, the agents did. These are my speculations based on the facts known. This whole case has been about covering one butt after another.
AND FOR CLARIFICATION…
Ladies and gentleman, a so-called “natural” death does not need to be covered up? A “natural” death does not need reporting to any law enforcement agency; SBI or otherwise. A “natural” death does not require the assistance of a prosecutor. Therefore, ECU Health knew they lied on Keisha White’s death certificate, claiming her death was “natural.” The math ain’t mathing.
THE INVESTIGATION THAT DID HAPPEN
Hassan Aden did launch an investigation on or at some point after November 7, 2014. This was different in that it was initiated by someone with authority, as opposed to being something that fell out the sky before disappearing like a fart in the wind. Aden assigned a GPD detective, included the DA’s office, and enlisted the help of an SBI agent (one different than the three Haddock communicated with). This investigation might have accomplished what it was designed to do if not for the corruption that took place in its midst.
See, ECU Health has repeatedly claimed they are a private entity. As such, they are not supposed to have authority over government agencies. The hospital overstepped their bounds when they failed to cooperate with a government-run investigation by failing to provide access to relevant personnel. When the SBI and GPD allowed them to get away with that, they relinquished their power over the investigation, and gave it to the hospital. By allowing the hospital to make that call, they effectively made ECU Health their boss regarding this case.
Who benefitted from that? ECU Health Medical Center and its staff, of course.
KIMBERLY ROBB’S FURTHER INVOLVEMENT
Once the botched investigation was complete… or shall I say, once law enforcement went as far as they were willing to go… the SBI agent involved submitted her report to the DA’s office. What’s wrong with this? Kimberly Robb and her office accepted the severely flawed report from a grossly incomplete investigation.
But that is not all. In addition to that, Robb now has evidence that supports:
- Homicide – based on evidence I had previously provided to her office and the GPD;
- Obstruction of justice – as indicated by law enforcement’s failure to properly investigate and ECU Health’s conduct thus far;
- Conspiracy to obstruct justice – since there was a meeting of the minds between ECU Health and the first three SBI agents, as well as a meeting of the minds between ECU Health, the investigating SBI agent, and the detective; and
- Other potential crimes – because their combined conduct sounds a lot like racketeering efforts or some other umbrella term encompassing their illegal conduct.
So why didn’t Kimberly Robb do anything? Oh, wait… Her office participated, too.
