Hi. I am Charla Brooks. I recently found out about a case involving the death of a young lady by the name of Keisha Marie White who died at 26 years old, after having been put in restraints for several hours before her death. She was a patient at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Her cause of death was anoxic brain injury (lack of oxygen to the brain). I won’t go into all of the details here. I’ll save that information for future posts.
What I will say here is I have never been more disgusted by the way a case has been handled. I have never been more irate or passionate about such an occurrence at a hospital than I have after hearing of what happened to this young lady. The details are horrifying, and especially so, when you consider that what happened to Keisha could happen to any one of us or to any of our family members. Yet, little has been done about it. From what I understand, fairness was given from the facility, either. In fact, in my opinion, they handled this situation filthy.
No Accountability
My plan for this website is to continue close contact with Keisha White’s family as I relay her story to you. Like I said, what happened to her can happen to any of us. Why? Because in this case, and probably many others, the details of the incidences are covered up. More than likely, a confidentiality agreement (gag order) is signed after a little bit of money is paid out. Such agreements stifle the family (or the signer of such an agreement) and threatens civil penalty if they speak publicly on what happened, but I digressed.
My point is, stories like this will continue to happen until there is accountability. Lab coats, titles, and alphabet degrees should not get a pass when they break the law.
I’m Not an Attorney, But…
In the midst of telling this story, I will also offer resources or possible remedies that may help you if you or a loved should experience patient abuse. While I can’t give legal advice, my plan is to give as much legal information as I can.
This case in particular should never have happened. I believe a crime has been committed, yet no charges have been filed. We’re going to get into that in future posts, as well.
After all information that I’ve been given is published, the next goal of this website is to use my platform to help others. I may give legal information regarding other topics in other areas of the law. I may tell your stories and add to YOUR voice. Eight years is a long time to wait for justice to be served. Maybe I can be a better service to someone than the NAACP, BLM, and ACLU was NOT to Mrs. Avens.
Don’t Give Up!
The one thing I want my readers to remember is, in many cases, their fight isn’t over until they win. Will justice ever be served in Keisha White’s case? I don’t know, but I hope so. Will justice be served in your case (if you have one)? I don’t know, but I hope so. Just don’t give up until all, and I mean ALL possibilities have been exhausted. Fight until you win!
These are “critical times hard to deal with”-2 Tim 3:1-5,13. But, Jehovah God through the ransom sacrifice of His Son Jesus promises to do away forever all suffering under their heavenly Kingdom rule (Psalm 83:18;John 3:16;17:3;Isaiah 65:17,25;Rev 21:3-5;Matt 6:9,10;24:14,42,44). They will resurrect many in Jehovah’s memory back to life (John 5:28,29;Acts 24:15;Rev 20:12-15). In commemoration of Jesus’ ransom sacrifice millions worldwide will observe the words Jesus said at Luke 22:19 ” keep doing this in remembrance of me ” by attending the memorial of Christ’s death on April 15,2022. The special talk entitled Where Can You Find Real Hope? will be given on Sunday April 10,2022. Both of these events will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses nearest you. The invitation may be read on jw.org and the accompanying videos on the digital copy of the invitation may be watched. I truly pray for justice to be done in behalf of Keisha. Hopefully comfort will be found in the scriptures posted here and joining in the annual celebration of the Lord’s evening meal gives hope of seeing Keisha again.
