Let’s go over some things we already know.
- Keisha Marie White: a victim of patient abuse and neglect.
- Former RN, Linda Brixon: the nurse assigned to Keisha while a patient at Vidant Medical Center.
- The NC Board of Nursing concluded that Brixon did commit patient abuse and neglect in their findings, and as a result, suspended Brixon’s license for 6 months. ๐ (I know, right.)
- The NCDHHS investigation further details the patient abuse and neglect AND cites Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC for being in violation of 6 federal healthcare laws. SIX! (Hold on. We’ll talk more this later.)
- Keisha died from anoxic brain injury, which is lack of oxygen to the brain, after being denied oxygen. Therefore, it’s safe to say that she died as a result of this patient abuse and neglect.
- There are 3 DIFFERENT accounts in writing for the failure to connect Keisha’s cardiac leads.
- Brixon claimed the patient refused the leads. (According to technician documentation in the medical records)
- Brixon claimed the patient loosened or wiggled out of the leads after being restrained to the bed via Posey vest and bilateral wrist restraints. (According to the NCBON)
- Brixon verbally told a co-worker that she would NOT put the leads on the patient because she had done so 4 times already. (According to a co-worker’s statement given to NCDHHS)
- No charges have been filed (as of this writing), because authorities believe no crime has been committed. (But isn’t involuntary manslaughter a crime? People go to prison all the time for “accidental” deaths.)
- The BON did tell Keisha’s mother that Vidant did file a complaint against Brixon first. But the Board neglected to find any offenses worthy of discipline. Yet, when Keisha’s mother complained, they found enough offenses to suspend Brixon’s license.
What I’m saying is…
It seems very plausible to me, that Keisha is not the first, last, and only victim of patient abuse by Linda Brixon. Could there have been other incidents where Brixon did harm another patient, but she or Vidant covered it up? ๐ She seems to be lying about a number of things just in this case alone.
We’re talking about a nurse with over 20 years experience who SUPPOSEDLY DID NOT KNOW:
- the signs or symptoms of lack of oxygen (hypoxia).
- she should maintain oxygen therapy
- she should remove physical restraints in a timely manner.
- to report dangerously low oxygen levels (62%, remember?) to her boss; the acting physician in charge.
- she is to follow physician’s orders.
So, while this nurse is being excused for her actions, protected, or given slaps on the wrist, DID AUTHORITIES OVERLOOK THE POSSIBILITY THAT MAYBE SHE KILLED PATIENTS BEFORE AND MAY KILL AGAIN? Did they overlook this possibility BEFORE Keisha’s mother took an active role in her daughter’s case that ultimately resulted in the suspension of Brixon’s nursing license?
Thanks for taking the time to comment! ๐
